Schools Chemical Collection Program

The Summary
We train public school officials on how to improve air quality and keep their schools environmentally safe using sustainable management and inventory practices. We also help more than 400 schools identify and dispose of unneeded and outdated hazardous chemicals within regulatory guidelines. As a result, more than 47,000 pounds of unused chemicals are safely removed from schools.

The Rundown
Train educators and school personnel on sustainable practices, including preventing pollution, minimizing waste and promoting clean air in schools.
Conduct on-site assessments of school facilities to evaluate cleanliness, pollutant sources, and environmental conditions.
Organize and host training courses for educators to prevent and solve environmental problems and address chemical inventory management.
Provide technical guidance to school personnel to improve indoor air quality at school facilities.
Among the dangerous chemicals targeted and safely removed: mercury, lead, chromium, arsenic, barium, benzene, cadmium, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, hydrofluoric acid, naphthalene, and picric acid.
