Mark Heaney, Principle in Charge of AlterEcho, has managed large environmental programs for the EPA and private sector for the past 20 years, focusing on best practices, resource management, preservation and restoration of facilities throughout the United States.
Mark leads support efforts for the EPA's Resource Conservation Challenge program, partnering with the private sector to prioritize resource conservation, waste and chemical pollutant minimization, energy savings and greenhouse gas reduction benefits.
When Mark is not helping clients save resources, money and the environment, he and his wife are on a soccer field or in a swimming pool helping their two daughters and one son pursue Olympic dreams.

- What do you do for AlterEcho? I provide leadership and inspiration for our account teams to help clients develop and leverage their green capabilities for financial and environmental performance.
- What’s your background? I have 20 years of experience in environmental management and sustainability programs, with technical and field expertise in waste minimization, pollution prevention and site characterization.
- How are we better at taking care of the planet than we were 30 years ago? The corporate world is more motivated today by environmental stewardship than just by regulatory standards, so as a result more companies are taking a proactive lead in achieving sustainable business practices.
- What’s the strangest place your job has brought you to? The cockpit of an F-15 fighter jet.
- What do you think the most urgent environmental issue is today? Water supply. One billion people on Earth don't have access to clean drinking water; it's something that we take for granted in the United States but it’s a major environmental and social crisis worldwide.
- Who would you love to have dinner with? Theodore Roosevelt.
