James Ashworth

James Ashworth

Jim Ashworth is an AlterEcho senior scientist, and site assessment and regulatory expert. He is a registered Professional Geologist with more than 25 years of experience. He leads multiple assignments throughout the country for EPA and state regulatory agencies addressing groundwater quality, use and remediation issues.

Jim has evaluated hundreds of pilot projects and feasibility studies focusing on issues of technical practicability, cost effectiveness, system performance and regulatory compliance for groundwater innovations and technologies. In addition, he has provided regulatory interpretation and support to various federal and state agencies as well as private-sector clients regarding the transportation and management of hazardous materials and wastes.

Outside of his passion for science and geology, Jim plays in two music bands, searches for the country's best enchiladas and spends time outdoors with his wife and their two sons.

  • What do you do for AlterEcho? I'm the go-to geologist for technical insight and analytical support to help clients successfully resolve their environmental and business risk issues.
  • What's your background? I'm a professional scientist by trade, and have specialized in environmental consulting and natural resource exploration and evaluation support for 25 years.
  • What's your specialty? Groundwater investigation and clean up.
  • What's your happy place? Playing my guitars.
  • What do you think is the most urgent environmental issue today? Global warming.
  • What's one thing that your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you? I am afraid of heights, yet I used to rappel down open-air pits over 400 feet deep during my spelunking years.
